Football. — A Football Match Amberley v Oxford was played in the' Park last Saturday and after a very interesting game resulted in a win for Oxford by IB points to nil. Mr J. Hooper acted as referee and it is needless to say performed that duty in a very satisfactory manner. Amberley won the toss and decided to defend the south goal. The kick off by Oxford was quickly followed up by their forwards and soon placed the visitors on the defensive, and a lot of scrummaging and close play took place in Amberley twenty-five. From a heel out of scrum J. Summerfield got possession and cleverly evading his opponents scored. 0. Aldridge took the kick and placed a neat goal but was disallowed ( Oxford 3 Amberley nil ) From the 7 drop out the ball was sent well into the local twenty-five but was quickly-returned by . D. Me. Grath. The Amberley forwards here got up a dribbling rush and took the ball into mid-field, where T. Harle got possession and passed to G. Aldridge who took the leather back to the visitors twenty -five, then passed to Sirett who crossed the line and scored. The shot at goal failed to increase the score. (Oxford (3/ Amberley nil.) A dinner was provided for the visitors in the Oxford Hotel, after partaking of which they returned home by the- evening train thoroughly convineed that the. Gxford toys were thorough footballers and jolly good fellows. Bano of Hope.— The fortnightly meeting of the Methodist Band of Hope, was held in the West Oxford Church on Monday evening last. The Rev. E. Mayson presided;*. A very interestingprpgraramewaigone through consi sting of recitations as follows, Misses Ancall, Knbwles, Greigg, Sneethurst, C. Knowies, R. Whyte, Roi and Miss Mayson. Jones, but the gem of the evening was a Dialogue given by the three Miss Whyte's. After the programme was gone through, one perhaps more interesting to some would be the eatables and coffee handed round by the ladies to a very eager audience which did justice to the good things so liberally provided.
