W AIMAK ARIRI- AS HLE Y WATER-SUPPLY

A meeting o* this Board was held at the Kangiora Boad Board office Tuesday. Present — Messrs O'Halloran (Chairman), Dixon, Hey wood and Dickenson. ; Messrs 'Meredith and Buddo, M.H.R.'s, were present to discuss with the Board tbe question of obtaining new legislation to assist the Board. Mr Meredith explained the position of matters between the Board and the Government arrived at during last session, and said he could expect this session to see . an amendment of the Duties Act passed legalising the action of trustees in lending money to the Board. . He suggested that the Board should "get l an 'Act diawn by the Board's solicitor embodying the amendments the Board required to the Waiinakariri-Ashley Water Supply Act 1891 Amendment Act 1892. He said the local Bill would not be likely to cost the district any outlay. The Bill woulds probably be passed in eight or nine weeks. If the Bill referred to was drawn by Messrs Garrick-and Co;-, • and printed, it could be-fully-discussed-at the next meeting. Mr Dixon an discussing the question of' his wbrkihg with the Board, said that if his'ebunti' ry did not have the benefit of an irrigation from Brown's' Roeks-he : should be found in a firm position of being antagonistic to the Board. trict. The Chairman said Mr Gordon (Engineer of Mines) had only been instructed to report on the intakes, and not on Mr Dixon's services, aecording to the instructions of the Board. In a discussion it was stated that at next meeting it was proposed to extend the district "to include Cooper's Creek at Oxford, and Mr Dixon was favorable to taking in part of Kaiapoi Island. The Board decided rto have a draft of the proposed Bill circulated; and the Board adjourned after some other discussion till Thursday at Oxford.
