CUST.

A general meeting of the members of the Cricket Club was held on Monday evening last, when there was a rather poor attendance. Mr A. T. Chapman was voted to the chair. The business of the meeting was to appoint a Deputy-captain, and to arrange for the improvement of practice. More than one speaker called attention to the necessity of improving the affairs of the Club. Mr E. W. Cooper was appointed Deputy-captain"; and it was jresolved to hold practices every Monday, to commence, at 3.30 p.m. The question of matches received considerable attention. It was decided to p.lay against Amberley, if possible, on Feb. 26 ; Mr Blunden to be requested to arrange for a match with Carleton ; the Oxford Club to be communicated with, regarding a return match on a date after Feb. 26th. The President was requested to purchase some balls, and the Secretary instructed to pay an account for bats. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting. Owing to the pressure of harvest work, the usual meeting of the Oddfellows' Lodge was not held on Tuesday evening. The Sports Committee will meet on Tuesday week. The monster bazaar for which the ladies of the Presbyterian congregation have been assiduously working of late, is expected to take place m the early part of April. An occasional correspondent writes : — " I hear that the authorities of the Episcopalian Church have concluded to remove the Eev. Wyatt to an up-country district of Wellington. It is not known yet what minister will succeed him here. There is much talk just now of marring and giving m marriage. Two weddings have taken place m the district this week, and the cry is still they come. Big business for the parsons, and an absorbing subject for gossip among the other feminines. This week the interest of all old settlers has been attracted, for on Monday Mr Thomas Milne of Rangiora was united to Miss Ellen Garrett, whose father has been for some 28 years farming m the district. The wedding was a quiet one, and took place m the house of the bride's parents; but all the old pioneers and their descendants are giving hearty good wishes for the happiness of the young couple. — Then on Wednesday we had a great wed-ding,-when Miss Lucy Cooper was led to the hymeneal alter by Mr Samnel Sellars of Bennett's Junction. The ceremony was performed at the Horrelville Wesleyan Ohapel by the Rev T. H. Gray, whose affability contributed to the general enjoyment. The bridesmaids were the Misses F., E , and K. Cooper, sisters of the bride, and Miss Mabel Cooper, her nieqe. ThQ

Cooped The wedding breakfast was subsequently held m a marquee adjoining the residence of the bride's parents, and was remarkable for the presence of a very large number of the original settlers who had shared with Mr and Mrs Cooper the toils of the early days m Cust.
