NO FLOWER FOE AMERICA

Did you know that the United States of America is one of the only countries which has no national floral emblem ? Our own emblem is, of course, the rose. Ireland has the shamrock, and Scotland the thistle. France has tlie •li|y (for fleur-d!e-lis) and Jtiftian the chrysanthemum. The edelweiss is the national flower of Switzerland, while Spain has the pomegranate blossom, and Greece the narcissus. Canada is ahead of t'lie States in this respect—for it has the maple leaf. This lack of a floral emblem has been worrying some people in America. They want the States to have a, flower all its own, and to this end have been for some time Surging the adoption of the golden rod.
