THE OZONE MYTH.
There is something attractive in the proposal to bring ozone to our congested inland towns from the seaside by means of lines of pipes, but before a company is floated for that purpose it would be as well to make certain that it will be worth while, observes "Diarist" in the Westminster Gazette. A a matter of fact, the amount of ozone in seaside air is infinitesimal —rarely as much as two pints in a million pints of air—and it exists in about the same proportion in all pure air, country or seaside. And there is no evidence whatever that it has any beneficial effect on the human system. The characteristic smell which visitors to the seaside find so exhilarating, and label ozone, is actually given off by decaying vegetable and animal matter washed up by the tide. But I suppose it is too late now to dissipate the ozone myth.
