A SOLDIER'S FAREWELL.

FIREMAN ENTERTAINED

Members of the Paeroa Volunteer Fire and a number of visitors gathered together in the brigade shed last night to farewell Private W. Pennell, a member of the brigade, and his chum, Private I. Kennedy. Captain Moore occupied the chair, "and after proposing the toast of their departing comrade presented Private Pennell with a wristlet watch. He referred in a pariseworthy tone to the work done by Private Pennell during his service in the brigade, and complimented him on his action in enlisting. Captain Moore said that already the brigade had six representatives at the front, and the seventh was about to go. This was a splendid average, as it represented over 50 per cent, of the brigade 'strength. Private Pennell suitably replied. ' " During the evening a number of musical items were rendered, and much appreciated. Refreshments were handed round, and the usual toasts were responded to with enthusiasm.
