ART UNION COMMITTEE.

; A meeting of the above was held in the Gazette Office, when Mr Hugh Poland was elected chairman and Mr G. E. Allen secretary. Mr H. R. Bush

was elected a member of the committee. / The offer from the Ohinemuri Jockey Club to provide 350 sovereigns for the first and second prizes for the art union was received; also donation of! two draught horses from Mr j. Brenan, value v£Bb~j and a saddle value ,£5 10s from Mr E.Jones. •

It was decided to proceed with the:

art union at once, an,d if possible to dispose of horses and other articles offered and substitute cash in lieu thereof. ..-.'■...:■..' :'■''■.[■■ ■.-■■'..■■■ :'..-:.r/ ./•■/

There will be a total of 466 sovereigns connected with the art union, and the

committee has decided that; the gross receipts from the sale of tickets will go towards the funds. . j \

The prizes are as follows: — First, painting, value 250 sovereigns ; second, painting, 'value 100 sovereigns; third, painting, value 50 sovereigns; fourth, painting, value 25 sovereigns; fifth, painting, value: 10 sovereigns ; with five consolation prizes of pictures valued at five sovereigns each.

The Ohinemuri Jockey Clnb' has consented to guarantee the values, and if the winner of any painting would prefer

the cash the Jockey Club will hand the

money over.

The date for drawing the art union has not yet been settled, but it will be on or prior to 20th December, and will be conducted by the Mayors of Waihi, Thames, Te Aroha, and Paeroa.

Tickets are now on sale and are being eagerly sought after at five shillings each.
