SPORTS NOTES.
(By Solomon.)
The domain grounds on Saturday ; presented rather a fine, spectacle as a result of the continued fair weather. The bowling green, with : *the well- -* designed and effulgent hedge, looks particularly attractive, and has doubtless much to do with the presence of so many bowlers, on week nights .and on , Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
The croquet lawns are simply exquisite for play purposes, and the ladies are accordingly taking full benefit. Several Karangahake croquet players visited the local club on Saturday, and some very interesting games were played. . The lawns were well monopolised until late in the afternoon. The tennis courts, although not consistently good, were in a very fine condition on Saturday, and it was consequently a regret that the Karangahake players, who evidently anticipated a wet day, did not turn. up. A club tournament was held, however, and some good games in which players generally showed improvement were witnessed. The, winners in the tournament were Smitn and Fairfax Moresby. The thanks of the club are due to the Domain. Board for so kindly laying a water pipe be^ tween the two !courts, which can now be readily hosed as occasions demand. It is my intention in future to insert weekly the tennis and croquet players: who are reported as showing most improved form, and I hope that this will tend to encouragement.
