A LIFE DISQUALIFICATION.

REQUEST FOR ITS REMOVAL

Some eleven years ago Richard S. Henry and others were disqualified for life by the Masterton Racing Club for participation in an alleged " ringmg-in " case. The following letter from Mr Henry, who now would appear to hold a responsible position in Manila, was read at the meeting of stewards of the Masterton Club last week :— " About 11 years ago I incurred your displeasure, when you imposed a sentence of life disqualification on me, which I might say I richly deserved. But for life is a long time, gentlemen, the gallows sentence of the turf, with no chance of a second life, no chance to prove reform. I am sorry for wliat I have done, and I might say that I was not prompted to do those things merely for gain, but more for love of adventure and devilment, for what I was pleased to call in my young days cracking jokes. I have ncv settled in business, being manager and junior partner of one of the largest shipping and importing firms in the East; but for a long time my disqualification brought nic very hard times indeed, and for many years I presented a most abject picture, and now, in my private and business capacity I feel the stigma very much. With due deference I really think I have paid the penalty of my wrong doing, but that, gentlemen, is for you to determine, and it is with that hope I humbly request that you reconsider your decision of eleven years ago and remove the embargo, and gentlemen I promise you that should I ever race again, I will act according to the bitter lesson I have received. Hoping this will receive your favourable consideration.—RlCHAßD S. HENRY." It was decided (says the Age) to inform Mr Henry that the club is willing to favourably consider his application on receiving information verifying the statements contained m his letter.
