Karangahake Notes.

[OWN COKMWPONBENT.]

UNITED SUNDAY SCHOOL.

Karangahake was en feto on Monday night, when a very successful goncert in celebration of the eighth anniversary of the Karangahake United Sunday School was held in Montgomery's Ha 11. The hall, which had been tastefully decorated for the occasion, "was well filled by the Sunday School children, their parents and friends, who appreciated very heartily a capital programme presented by the Chairman, Mr Belton. Very groat pains seem to have been taken in training the children for the great event in their year, and the manner in which those contributing items acquitted themselves should be very gratifying':to a]! concerned. A Special note of praise is due totng f|r]sand;boy? ? who under the conuctorsliip of Mr W. Searle, took part in the action songs.. The effect I produced by their . singing and jUustratiye gestures was' most striking, We^rbuld also refer particularly \q the piahqan<| cornet bo}o rendered byPeaVl and Samuel McNeil. In Addition to these items the programme Included an instrumental duet by, 3?earl McNeil and Pearl Jackson? a&d yecitatiohs by Misses Madge Syme, Maggie Smi|h, • Perth . McLean, Jfanie Symo, and Minnie Vinson, and foy Masters Fred B>pwn, Percy BilUngs, Dayid Syme, Willie Davies and ArtHur Brown. Ah apology for absence was received from the Bey. J, P. Cowie, while brief addresses were given by the Beys. J, Me/^thur, B, E. Godbehear, and the Chaiiinan. A number of prizes secured by those who had during the year been most diligent in their Sunday School work or regular in attendance were distributed by the Chairman. The Secretary's report indicated that the affairs of the school are in a prosperous condition. The number of ueachers is seven, which considered ix reference fe the fact thiif'.'there are I^2 scholars on the roll seems a rather small complement. The average attendance the year has been a record one, this being attributed to there iiaying been fewer wet Sundays than usual. The library, containing 266 yoliimes, is Bftucji appreciated, while a quanntj of ?engiouß periodical literature has been distributed. The b^alanp.e-shea,t presented' ah.owe,d a qreditbaiance of £18 11s lid. A"Xer |he nsuel votes of. thanks had been carried, the meeting was clo,sed \*lth |he Poxology and tfie Benedic^io,!!.
