Britain and France.
Lord Salisbury and M. Oambon, the French Minister in London, have signed a convention delimiting the possessions und spheres of influence in Central Africa. This is regarded as supplementary to the Niger eon-* vention. Britain retains Baha-el-Qha-zal and Darfur, while Franco retains Wadai, Bagerini, Kanema, and the territory north and east of Lake Tchad, north to the fifteenth degree of latitude. Britain recognises that the French sphere extends south as far as the Tropic of Cancer, as far as-the western limit of the Libyan Desert from the Nile to Lake Tchad, and between the fifth and fifteenth parallels. Both nations concede commercial equality. France is permitted to have a commercial establishment on the Nile and its affluents, but neither power is to exercise political or territorial rights outside their respective frontiers, '■'.■-■'..'■
