SECOND DATS MEETING,
DLNGO WINS THE STEEPLES
PORANGI POTAE SECURES THE
DOUBLE
Splendid weather prevailed on Saturday for the concluding day's races of the Ohiiieniuri Jockey Club's meeting, and as a result the attendance was again very large. Although the fields we're smaller than on the preceding day the racing was very interesting, some close finishes resulting. 'No sensational dividends were paid, the largest being £7 17s paid by Porangi Potae in the Waihi Handicap, after winning the Paeroa Handicap and paying £3 10s. The wholG of the events passed off without a hitch, there being no accidents or protests to mar the day's pleasure. At the sod wall, whore Friday's accident occurred, the Committee had taken the precaution of sprinkling water, in order to lay the dust, and this proved very effective. _ The officials one and all deserve credit for the manner in which they worked to make the meeting the success it undoubtedly was. The police arrangements were exceptionally good, six constables under Sergeant Brennan as well as Detectives Maddern and Herbert being present. The crowd was a most orderly one, the police refusing all suspicious characters admission. Throughout bli3 day the Waihi Band, under Bandmaster Gordon, played numerous selections, and greatly added to the day's enjoyment. The totalisator, in the hands of Mr Blomfield and his staff, was well patronised throughout iho clay, the sum of £2594 being passed through it, making a total of £6,075 for the two days. Subjoined is the result of the racing:

2. Second Handicap Huiidles of 40sovs.; second horse to i^^ve ssovs foom stakes. Over seven flights of hurdles. Nomination, 10s; acceptance, £l ss. -Distance, If miles.
Orena (Pluimner) , 1 Acita (Morrigan), 2 Livelier (Pennell) • -8 These were the only starters. Anita led at the start with the others in close attendance, which she still maintained until the straight was reached the last time, when Orena came on and a dingdong race home ensued, Orena gaining the verdict "by half a length. This was a popular win. On the machine, 528; on the winner, 134. Dividend, £1 15s. 3. Waitekatoi Plate of 35sovs.; • second korse to receive ssovs. froiu stakes. Nomination, 10s; accepfcance, £1. Distance, 7 furlongs,. Cavalier (t Jillespie) 1 The Needle (Boniior) 2 Honesty (Pope) 3 .>- Try Me also started. After one or two false starts the field were got away together. Cavalier soon took command, and won easily in a canter. On the maclrine, 904 ; on the winner, 485. Dividend, 16s, 4. Waiiii Handicap of S6sovs.; second horse to receive lOso'vs. from stakes. Winner of Paeroa Handicap to carry slbs penalty. Nomination, 10s ; acceptance, £1 10s. Distance, 1|- miles. Porahgi Potae (Jelling) 1 Miss .Anna- (Pope) 2 Acone (Taylor) 3 Eight started. . St. Ona caused considerable delay by bolting at; the start*' but eventually a good start was effected. Entering the straight tho first; time Acone-led, but passing the: stand St. Gordon hold the lead, followed by Boadicea, Avho soon after went to the fore. Porangi Potae here improved his position and was in the lead when the straight was .reached; Miss Anna made a desperate attempt to get on terms with the leader," but the latter was not to be denied and won. by about a length, only a head separating sacond and third horses. On the rnach'ne, 892.; on tho winner, 51. Dividend, £7 17s. 5. Second Handicap Steeplechase of 60sov.s ; second horse to receive 1 Osovs. from stakes. Nomination, £1;' acceptance, £1 10s. " Distance, about 3 miles. Diugo (Munio). 1 Saint (Morrigan) 2 The Monk (Berry) 3 Woodcock and e Stocknian also started. This proved a splendid race. Diego took the lead, closely followed by Stockman and Woodcock. At the second jump Woodcock stumbled, and though Xattems made a splendid recovery this practically threw him out oi the race. Stockman was the first to negotiate the double on the second round, 'closely followed by Dingo and The Saint. Dingo soon regained the lead, and Stockman falling near Dickey's left the race between the three placed horses. The Monk here began to gain on The Saint, who was two lengths behind Dingo. This position was maintained until the judge's bos was .passed. On the macliine, 724 • on the winner, 186. Dividend, £1 15s,
6. Second Pony Handicap of SOsovs.; second horse to receive ssovs. from stakes. For ponios 143 and under; three-year-olds and up~wards. .Nomination, ]0s ; accepi ' tarice, 15".. Distance, 7 furlongs. Repetition (T'onnor) .". 1 Winnie (Born) ..._....- 2 Moment (Edwai'ds) 3 Fivo started, This race was merely a procession, Repetition winning easily. On the machine, 736; on the winner, 126. Dividend, £2 12s. 7. Final Handicap of 30sovs.; second horse to receive ssovs. from stakes. Nomination, 10s; acceptance, 15s. Distance, 6 furlongs. St. Innis (Ryai) 1 Puhia(McKee) 2 Lady Dash (Steward) ;. ■ 3 Sis started. Considerable delay was experienced in getting this field, away owing-to the restiveness of one or two .Horses. When a start was effected, Ladj' Dash was first away, followed by Tiie Needle. TJiec^ryd, however, soon gave way, andtoiM^iag the straight all the horses seemed to be in it. Puhia and St.' Innis then drew out and coming up the straight neck and neck the latter; gained the verdict by a nose.. .
