COMPTON’S OMISSION

\ . Recurrence Of Knee Injury

EXPECTED TO BE FIT FOR FUTURE GAMES

Rec. 7.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 22. Denis Compton, England's vice-cap-tain, has suffered a recurrence of his knee injury and cannot play in tne second test. His omission is considered f necessary recuperative measure after the Australian Eleven match in Sydney where almost the entire responsibility of saving England from defeat was thrown on his shoulders. Compton seemed tired and listless in that game, which he finished with a limp. He received shortwave treatment immediately on arrival in Melbourne and his doctor has been satisfied with his progress. An X-ray of the knee has shown a complete absence of bone flaking. He should be fit for future games.
