SPONTANEOUS GIFTS
Widow Of Murdered Taxi Driver LARGE SUM COLLECTED NZPA—Copyright SYDNEY, Dec. 22. The widow of the taxi driver, Norman Dickson, who was murdered near Penrith on Sunday, now has over £I2OO as the result of spontaneous gifts by citizens. When told of her Husband’s death Mrs Dickson collapsed and later said she did not know where she and her five children would get the next meal. A fund started by detectives of the Criminal investigation Branch quickly swelled to £7OO, with £3OO more promised, and, in addition, the philanthropist, Mr E. J. Hallstrom, gave £SOO. The State Minister of Transport has said he will issue a taxi plate in the widow’s name. Efforts will now be made by a large group of taxi drivers to buy a taxi and operate it on behalf of the widow. The taxi drivers are keen to do this without outside help, and are confident they will raise the money quickly.
