Unauthorised Appeal
“It has come to my notice that some person has been calling on householders in Cumberland street and the North End of the city soliciting contributions on behalf of the old people,” stated the chairman of the Otago Old People’s Welfare Council, Mr H. A. Glasson, last night. “At no time has the council authorised anyone, either man or woman, to make any house-to-house appeal for contributions either in goods or money. Nor has the Pensioners’ Association given such authority. It is regrettable that during this goodwill season anyone should descend to such dishonest practices, and I would ask citizens to report them to the police.”
