Sympathy From Jewish Community

PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. “ Mr Fraser had a great understanding of Jewish problems, and at the conferences of the United Nations his voice was raised in the cause of suffering Jewry and the relief of the distressed countries of Europe.” Rabbi Astor made this statement when the Jewish community of Auckland paid tribute last night to the former Labour Prime Minister. “Like the late General Smuts,” Rabbi Astor added, “ he had identified himself with the Zionist movement of which he had a profound knowledge, and by his sympathetic attitude he did much to assist in the creation of the new State of Israel. New Zealand Jewry joins in mourning this great itatesman and humanitarian.”
