“HOP” STONE DEAD

Famous Cld-time Boxing Celebrity NZPA—Copyright SYDNEY, Dec. 13. The death has occurred of “Hop" Harry Stone, aged 58, one of the most famous of the old-time boxing celebrities. An American by birth, Stone visited Australia nearly 40 years ago. He won seven of nine contests and remained after beating Lew Edwards in 1920 for the Australian Light-weight Championship. Stone claimed the record of never having been knocked out or disqualified in 500 fights. He amassed several fortunes and then lost or gave most of them away.
