FOWL PLUCKING

Timaru Poulterer. Claims Record PA TIMARU, Dec. 7. What is claimed to be a New Zealand record has been set by Mr A. V. Robertshaw. a Timaru poulterer, who was timed yesterday to wet-pluck a large fowl in 15 seconds. He offered to do it again just to show that it was not a fluke. Unhurried in movement and modest about his accomplishment, Mr Robertshaw said there were others on his staff who w T ere probably faster. The latest fowl-plucking machine had rerently been installed on the premises, but. although highly efficient, it could not pluck a fowl as fast as it could be done by hand, he said. When 200 fowls had to be plucked and dressed during a rush period recently two Timaru poulterers plucked 42 birds in seven minutes—three birds a man a minute.
