STRONG SYMPATHY
Otago Trades Council
“Although there is intense dissatisfaction on the Roxburgh Gorge hydroelectric project, causing on the average over the past 12 months 20 men a week to leave the job, paradoxically the resident engineer is held in the greatest respect and has the complete confidence of the men. This would indicate clearly that absentee control by the head office of the Ministry of Works at Wellington is the cause of all the trouble, together with the procrastination shown by those in charge of the office.” This statement on the Roxburgh Gorge dispute was issued to the Daily Times last night by the Executive Committee of the Otago Trades Council. “ The Executive Committee of the council is of the opinion that, after having exhausted all constitutional means of redress at their disposal, the workers at Roxburgh Gorge can reasonably claim the sympathy of all its, affiliations, and they are assured of! the full moral support of the commit- i tee for an adjustment of their grievances. Failing an early settlement oil the dispute, a further meeting of thej committee will be called to consideij financial and other assistance.” thJ statement continued. m
