SMALLEST POLL SINCE 1931
Not since 1931 has there been such a small number of votes cast in the city mayoralty election. In 1931, only 21,108 votes were cast, compared with 23,240 on Saturday. The votes cast in the past nine elections were:—l9so, 23,240; 1947, 32,223; 1944, 31,371; 1941, 26,824; 1938, 32,032; 1935, 27,908; 1933, 26,295; 1931, 21,108; 1929, 15,885.
