CYCLING CLASSIC
Waimate To Christchurch DUNEDIN RIDERS TAKE FASTEST TIMES PA CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. W. Prattney. of Auckland, won the 135-mile Centennial Waimate to Christchurch Cash Road Cycling Classic on Saturday. He came within an ace of taking the fastest time as well, but this honour went to W. Whiston, the Dunedin scratch rider, by the narrowest of margins after hundreds of spectators had spent a tense quarter of an hour watching the approach to the Halswell Domain to see if the back-markers would get up in time.
Prattney entered the domain at the back of a group of four, and stayed there until the weary quartet reached the track proper. Tnen he went straight past the other riders and never looked like being caught. Results:—
