TRANSIT HOUSING

Call To Resume Work

PA WELLINGTON. Oct. 11. A call for resumption of work on temporary or transit housing has been issued jo'intlv by the secretaries of the New Zealand Builders’ Federation, Mr W. A. McLean, and the Federation of Labour, Mr K. McL. Baxter. The men stopped work on the buildings several weeks ago, saying that the designs would result in unsatisfactory dwellings and settlements. The secretaries say that in cpnferences with the Minister in Charge of Housing Construction, Mr Goosman, representatives of their organisations were given an assurance that the present scheme was for transit housing only. It was not in any way to take the'place of the State housing scheme, which would be maintained. The Minister said that about 25 per cent, of the houses would be single units containing three bedrooms and 50 per cent, would be double units.
