Dunedin Cornetist In England

Mr Ken Smith, the champion cornetist of Australia and New Zealand, who left the St. Kilda Band to join the Fairey Aviation Works Band at Manchester, England, has a number of important engagements before him in the near future. . In a letter to his parents in Dunedin, Mr Smith says that he has accepted an invitation to appear as guest soloist at Albert Hall next .month when the Daily Herald contest is held. Mr Smith will also broadcast in the “ In Town Tonight ” series. He played

with the Fairey Aviation Band when it won the Bellevue contest at Manchester for the seventh time in 10 contests. The band was second on the other three occasions. The famous instrument makers, Besson’s, have shown such an appreciation of Mr Smith’s cornet playing that they have made him a special cornet. Mr Smith is seen on the left of the above photograph with two other members of tne Fairey Aviation Band in England.
