EARTH TREMOR
Slight Shock Early Yesterday Windows rattled and lights swung when a short, sharp earthquake jolted Otago at 6.45 yesterday morning. No damage was done by the tremor, which lasted less than 10 seconds. Most people who were astir at that time noticed the shock, and others were roused from sleep by it. No reports of its having been felt have been received from outside the province. In- the western districts the earthquake was reported to have been felt in Big Bay, Martin’s Bay, Queenstown and Alexandra. It was felt more strongly in the country districts than in Dunedin RECORDED AT DOMINION OBSERVATORY Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. An earthquake this morning was recorded at the Dominion Observatory, Wellington, though it was not severe enough to be felt by anyone. Observatory records establish that its centre was 350 miles south of here.
