REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY

Early Approach For Next Season's Games “ I would like to see letters sent to the Canterbury, Otago and Southland Rugby Unions asking for representative games at Oamaru next season,” Mr F. V. Dcnnehy said at the final meeting for the year of the North Otago Rugby Union on Monday night. Mr Dennehy said that during the past season the position with regard to representative games had not been very satisfactory. , “ I feel there is something wrong with the way we arrange our representative matches,” the president, Mr J- Firman, said. '■ I would like to see the TownCountry matches played on set days m each season before any other representative games are played.” At the invitation of the various clubs, the following were appointed to represent the union:—Maheno Club’s annual social, October 14, Messrs Firman and Dennehy; Athletic Club's annual reunion, October 21, Messrs Firman and Kearns; Athletic Club’s Third and Fourth Grade social, October 18, Messrs Firman and Cross. An invitation was also extended to union members to attend the Referees' Association social for schoolboy teams tonight. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that the Middlesex County Rugby Union had presented a cup to the union with the suggestion that it be competed for in some form of seven-a-side tournament. The council was not sure, the letter stated, that such a tournament could be successfully organised, and therefore asked for' suggestions. After some discussion. it was decided to recommend that the council ask individual unions who conduct seven-a-side tournaments for information and, when this , was obtained, to allocate the cup for a set period for the individual unions’ tournaments. , , 'Mr Low reported that only one entry had been received for the Cecil Davey Memorial Cup competition. Mr Firman suggested that the union should write to the three town clubs inviting suggestions for the disposal of the cup. The matter was held over to be brought up early next season. . It was decided to send a letter ot appreciation to Mr A. Nuttall for his services to Rugby over the past year.
