PA AUCKLAND, Oct. 6. Mr J. S. Stewart was chosen last ;night by the Auckland Labour Re“.presentation Committee to contest the Auckland mayoralty next month. He won the nomination against Messrs F. --W. Schramm and Paul Richardson. > Mr Stewart was born at Greenock, Scotland, 48 years ago and came to New Zealand at the age of 24. He has been employed by the Auckland Trans- "• port Board since 1928. He was a member of the Auckland City Council for a term and stood unsuccessfully for 'the Kaipara seat in 1943, but was ' “beaten by the present Minister of Justice, Mr Webb. He also contested the Marsden seat in 1946 when Mr A. •J. Murdoch won. Mr Stewart has held important offices in the Labour Move'ment in Auckland.
