Whitebait By Air Whitebait is replacing oysters in freight carried north from Christchurch by the National Airways Corporation to the main centres of the North Island. Oysters have arived at Christchurch by railway from Bluff, been shelled, and sent on by air to places like Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Palmerston North in four-gallon tins. This run of freight, 'however, is finished, and for the past few days whitebait have been going north from Harewood in ever-increas-‘ing quantities. Local Government A series of five informative radio broadcasts on local government and public relations by a panel of speakers us to commence next Tuesday, continuing at intervals until October 27. The first of these will deal with local bodies in a democracy, while another is “The Voter’s Part in Local Govern- • ment.” Other talks deal with local body affairs, and also the future of -• local govenment in New Zealand. In • view of the early approach of the local body elections throughout New Zealand 'it "is believed that this series will be of general interest. Organ Recital The City Organist’s monthly organ • recital will be held in the Main Town Hall tomorrow night, commencing at 8.15. The programme to be Eented includes the choral pre- , “We All Believe in One God ” •(Bach), Larghetto in A major (Mozart), Introduction and Fugue (Merkel), Notturno (Mendelssohn), ■Passepied (Delibes), and Triumph Song (Baynon). The University String Orchestra will assist • with the programme and will play Bach’s “Concerto in D minor for piano and orchestra” (solo pianist, Maurice Till), and Elgar’s “Serenade in E minor for Strings.”
