FAREWELL TO SPEAKER

Mr Oram Leaving For Britain PA WELLINGTON, ‘ Oct. 6. Members of the House of Representatives today bade farewell to the Speaker, Mr Oram, who with Mrs Oram will leave by air next week to represent Parliament and New Zealand at the ceremony of the reopening of the House of Commons. The Prime Minister, Mr Holland, said that it was an important mission, and the ceremony would be one of deep significance to the British Empire. He had asked Mr Oram, while he was in London, to make some investigation into the position which would arise when the Nevf Zealand Parliament would become a single chamber. Mr Holland said that earlier he had been to see the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Fraser, who was progressing satisfactorily, and he wished to be associated with the House’s expression of good wishes to Mr and Mrs Oram. The House rose at 5.53 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, when further classes of Estimates will be discussed.
