Mrs A. E.' Maizey. St. Clair, left yesterday to attend a Red Cross conference in Napier. The committee of the Literary Circle of the Otago Women’s Club held a tea party in the club on Wednesday, when entrants for the short story competition met the judge. Mrs F. G. Soper, who discussed the stories submitted. Mrs Mackie Begg, president of the Dunedin YWCA, Mrs Norman McKinley and Miss A. M. Aitken, will leave this week-end for Christchurch where they will attend the annual meeting of the Dominion YWCA.

Mrs H. Chapman, Mrs Oliver Chapman and Miss Patience Chapman left yesterday for Christchurch where Miss Patience Chapman will be bridesmaid at the wedding of Miss Marjorie Porteous and Mr Selwyn Carson. Guests welcomed at the Travel Club reception on Wednesday morning included Miss Margaret Chetwin (Western Australia), Miss V. Hutter (Auckland), Mrs F. Taylor (Timaru). Mrs •M. Hamilton (Christchurch), Mrs E. Wright (Oamaru). Mrs V. M Noble (New York), Mrs G. Olsen (Invercargill). Mrs P. N. Kelly (Roxburgh), Mrs A. C. Davis (Oamaru), Mrs Rawlins (Auckland), Mrs S. G. Johnston (Otautau), Mr and Mrs Eoin R. Garden and Mrs A. Strong (Dunedin) Among the speakers at the International Day held on Tuesday by the Dominion conference of the National Council of Women at Christchurch were Dr Elizabeth Gregory, Dean of the School of Home Science at „Otago University, who spoke on adult education; Mrs Gioh Fang Ma, who spoke on the status of women in China; and Dr Helen Deem, who addressed the conference on modern trends in infant welfare.
