RIVER REPORTS
Fishing Prospects Good
The telegraphic river -reports indicate that all rivers should be in excellent order for Ashing at the weekend, states a report from the Otago Acclimatisation Society. “The Wyndham, Mimihau and Mataura Rivers are reported to be- in excellent condition. This is rather unusual for the Mataura, but with the lack of rain and little snow in the back country it should offer good sport for the opening. “ The Pomahaka River, at Tapanui, is clear and in perfect order, and from Ciydevale it is reported to be in excellent order. The Waipahi is very low, but with the absence of weed at this time of the year, should offer good prospects. The Owaka River is low but there will be no weed. . The Catlins is in perfect order. “The Shag River is reported to be clear, while Mahinerangi dam is low, with mud around the banks. Very few Ash have been observed rising in the dam, and the most successful lures will be the minnow and live bait.
“Anglers requested to keep an accurate record of their catches during the year, and diary books for this purpose may be obtained from the society’s office free of charge. Anglers should appreciate, however, that the diary is of little use unless it is returned at the end of the season for recording by the Fisheries Laboratory.”
