WATER SUPPLY

Nicholls Creek LAYING OF PIPELINE With a view to augmenting the city water supply during the peak periods of demand in the summer months, the Works Department of the City Corporation has been engaged for a few weeks in piping the water from Nicholls Creek, in the Leith Valley, to connect with the main pipeline leading into the city system. The distance of piping required is less than 1000 ft, and only about 100 ft of this has still to be laid. The work has been held up to some extent because boulders and other obstacles have had to be removed before the laying of the pipes could continue, but it is. expected that the work will be completed in about a week. The intake from the creek has been fixed, and the connection is made to the main in the Leith Valley. The pipeline is about 12in in diameter.
