Commonwealth Economic Conference

NZPA—Reuter—Copyright LONDON, Sept. 18. A review of the efforts of Commonwealth countries to combat the dollar drain and plans for continuing the struggle to solve the sterling-dollar problem are the main purposes of the four-day conference of Commonwealth Ministers and their advisors beginning in London tomorrow. The Prime Minister, Mr Attlee, will receive the delegates at No. 10 Downing street before the opening of the first session. Mr Harold Wilson, president of the Board of Trade, will preside when commercial matters are being examined, and Mr Hugh Gaitskell. Minister for Economic Affairs, will he in the chair when financial matters are discussed.

The conference will, in particular, examine the effects of the present international situation on the economies of Commonwealth countries. Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa will, it is expected, raise the question of the high price of wool.
