BREAD AND GAS

Serious Shortages

PA WELLINGTON. Sept. T 9. Wellington faces the prospect of a serious shortage of bread and gas as a result of the watersiders’ decision not to work coal and flour ships after Mr Holland’s announcement today. The stocks of flour in the city vary among the bakers. Some have sufficient for only two days, others for a week. The Wellington Gas Company intends to cut the gas pressures, and is to make greater use of its water gas plant to eke out the supplies of coal. The Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Board has sufficient coal to last only three days, even with continued rationing.
