NEW COURSE

Industrial Management CONSIDERATION IN DUNEDIN Courses in industrial management may soon be available in Dunedin to young men- and women of initiative who are at present employed in the numerous industrial firms of the city. The Otago-Southland Manufacturers’ Association is at present studying the merits of a proposal to establish such courses, which have been conducted in other main centres for some time past. “ The object of the scheme is to enable young people with ability, energy and drive to qualify for various executive positions,” said the secretary of the association, Mr F. L. Hitchens, yesterday. “ They will be able to qualify for appropriate diplomas, depending upon the extent of their studies. If the scheme is adopted its implementation will be arranged with the local education authorities.” The subjects covered would be foremanship, departmental supervision, functional management and general management. Each of these subjects would be studied at night classes for one year and students need progress only as far as they might feel inclined. A fifth-year course in practical projects would probably be more suitable for those at managerial level. General educational instruction would, it is expected, be given by professional teachers, while specialist lectures would be delivered by the most competent people available in the commercial world.
