ENTERPRISING FOOTBALL

Zingari Beats University B Undeterred by the atrocious conditions at Monecillo, Zingari played enterprising football to beat University B by 13 points to 3. The students, too, tried to play open football, but they lacked combination and experience in the backs. Rain squalls swept the ground at Intervals during the first half, and almost continuously in the second half, and the ball was very difficult to handle. Both packs of forwards played well, with the Zingari men dominating the rucks and the students more prominent in loose play. C. M. Garden showed some of his best form, often bursting through at the head of the Zingari forwards, and he was strongly supported by N. L. Wilson. Of the backs, T. F. C. Geary directed the attack ably in the first five-eighth position, while outside him D. Simpson made several determined runs, one of which led to a try by D. Sims. R. Qrr was safe at full-back, his fielding of the ball being especially good. His opposite number, G. Mills, also showed promising form, and R. Church was the best of the other University backs. In the forwards, R. T. Baker and B. Woolley worked well, and B. J. Dunn shone in some good cover defence. For Zingari, tries were scored by E. Watson and D. Sims (2), and Geary converted two of them. For University, C. Wilson kicked a goal from a penalty. Mr S. McConnell was the referee.
