TRAINEES IN CAMP

Sir, —Mr Doidge, Minister of External Affairs, is reported to have made ths statement that he would not send “ children " overseas. He is referring to S great number of compulsory military training recruits who are in camp at ths present moment. Perhaps Mr Doidge is not aware that at the conclusion of our instruction we will have completed a longer and more thorough term of training than the majority of troops who served overseas in the 1939-45 World War received. I wish to bring to his attention the fact that the New Zealand Army doea not enrol children to defend its country. We are men, doing men’s jobs, and wish to be treated as such.—l am, etc., I. M. M.
