Taieri Road Milk Depot VENDORS ARRANGE FOR SUPPLIES Although the bid by the Dunedin Milk Vendors’ Association to have the Taieri. road milk depot retained has failed, householders in the Kaikorai and surrounding hill districts are not likely to be affected. Giving this information to the Daily Times yesterday, the secretary of the association, Mr W. G. Nicolson, said that an agreement had been reached by which a number of vendors will collect the milk required in the area on behalf of all the hill vendors.

At last month’s meeting of the Dunedin Metropolitan Milk Board a letter was received from the Internal Marketing Division intimating that the depot would be closed on June 23. A deputation from the association waited on the board, and representations were also made to the department. As a result, the closing date was postponed until last Saturday. “ Vendors have made every endeavour to help their customers,” Mr Nicolson said, “ and they ask in return that they receive more consideration in the matter of empty milk bottles.” This concerned the whole of the city, he said, for it was apparently not generally known that a vendor was charged for the non-return of bottles. A small allowance was made for breakages, but, apart from this, every bottle had to be accounted for at the end of each month. Even if the correct returns were made in the next month, the charge was still levied, for there was no allowance for “ leftovers.”
