£lo,ooo Stake For New Zealand Cup

Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH. July 4. The programme for the New Zealand Cup meeting was passed today by the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club. The stake for the Cup was raised to £IO,OOO at a previous meeting and today it was decided to allocate £IOO for a gold cup to go with the stake. Two other races have had the stakes increased, these being the Metropolitan Handicap, raised from £2500 to £3OOO, and the Canterbury Cup from £ISOO to £2OOO. Against these increases, the stake for the Fendalton Handicap has been decreased from £1750 to £ISOO This makes a net increase, including the New Zealand Cup, of £5750, the total stakes for the meeting being £38,350. On account of the second day being mid-week, some transpositions have been made in the races. The principal changes are that the Canterbury Cup and the Fendalton Handicap will be run on the second day, with the Churchill Stakes, the Metropolitan Handicap and the Oaks on the third day. 0 The first day’s double will be the New Zealand Cup and the Stewards’ Handicap, the second day the Fendalton and Jockey Club Handicaps, and the third day the Metropolitan and Members’ Handicaps.
