WEAPON FOR PEACE
Use Of United Nations CONTINUED AMERICAN SUPPORT URGED Rec. 8.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, May 30. Mr George Marshall today called on the United States to support the United Nations as a forum where words could be used instead of b.ullets. Mr Marshall, a former Secretary of State and war-time army chief of staff, spoke beside the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Memorial Day service. He said the victorious Power in another war would really lose it, because the victors would stand amid their own ruins. The United States should continue to back the United Nations as a weapon in the fight for peace. “ It is an imperfect organisation, but it does provide a forum where words can be used instead of bullets,” Mr Marshall said. "So long as this forum remains open, there are cracks in the iron curtain through which some of our ideas will penetrate.”
