REQUEST BY FARMERS

End Of Stabilisation COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY SUGGESTED PA INVERCARGILL May 31. “It would not be difficult to establish the fact that through the stabilisation period the primary producer has given upwards of £50,000,000 towards the economic stabilisation of this country,” said Mr A. V. Harley, the senior vice-president, when discussing stabilisation at the annual provincial conference of Federated Farmers of Southland yesterday. The conference decided to ask its National Executive to request the Government to constitute an Expert Committee to inquire into the desirability of terminating the period of stabilisation. It was considered that Federated Farmers’ national secretary, Mr A. P. O’Shea, should be one of the committee. In its request to the Government, the National Executive should also aslt; that the committee include in its terms of reference an examination of the Dominion’s internal and external trading, at least since 1945, and give serious consideration to an urgent return to sane trading. *
