ASHBURTON ACCEPTOR

Young Charles To Race In Stakes Young Charles has not raced since he ran second to Soangetaha in the Great Northern Derby at Epsom at the Auckland Trotting Cup carnival and if he makes a reasonable beginning on Saturday he may prove difficult to dispose of in' the New Zealand Futurity Stakes at Ashburton. Young Charles was the leading two-year-old pacer last season but his waywardness at the barrier spoiled many good chances earlier this season. His half-brother, Ohio, looks as though he may do good service next season for Sir John McKenzie. He has measured strides with the two-year-olds in two races and he finished third ,in each. He was beaten by Vivanti and Kapeen in the New Zealand' Welcome Stakes at Addington on April 8, and by Red Slipper and Johnny Globe in the Manawatu Futurity Stakes. In the latter event he finished with a broken hopple. Dunedin Owner A colt by Light Brigade from Kushanahi has been purchased by Mr J. E. Reeves, of Dunedin, for £SOO. The youngster is a half-brother to Hemisphere and may be trained at Hinds by D. L. McGregor. Futurity Stakes Candidate Burns Night, a candidate for the Futurity Stakes at Ashburton, has been lightly raced this season, having been started only six times, and he has been in the money on four occasions. He was unlucky in the Pacing Stakes at Addington at Easter as he was hemmed in and could not get a run.
