LAND OF OPPORTUNITY

Sir,—“Cato” has completely Ignored the fact that it was the Nazis. Fascists, and Communists who campaigned against the British Empire and her Allies in tne early years of the war. If the vapourings of Sasuly and Shaffer are the oniy answer that “ Cato ” has to the charges of rape murder, sabotage and looting which nave been proved against Communists _in various parts of the world he would have been wiser to remain silent. The. thesis laid down by Lenin for Communists m time of war between Imperial nations was that Communists of these countries must conduct a campaign of sabotage for tne defeat of their own country on their own front. How faithfully these disciples of Lenin carried out his treacherous thesis is found in the New Zealand Commun ists’ pamphlet. “ The Soviet Union “ Right,” their treachery in Britain during the war years, in the rape of P° la hd, and the horrors of Greece, China, Czecho Slovakia and other small countries they over-ran. Mr Churchill, detailing the events in Greece, said we had underestimated the power and treachery of th Communist-directed ELAS. They were simply taking our anns, lying low,, ana awaiting the moment when they could seize power by force, brutalityand in trigue, to make Greece a Communist State by the liquidation of all °PP° “ They abused the white flag and shot stretcher bearers and murdered thousands of hostages,” was the story told by Britisn soldiers to Lord Citrine, leader of the Labour delegation to Greece. If we believed the propaganda of “ Cato," “ Rattar ” and H. Gow. we would believe that under a capitalistic system history contained nothing but the story of human suffering, persecution and. warmongering. But we know that with the progress of civilisation and Christianity great strides have been made in putting wrongs right and taking care that men and women are treated as human beings, and not like animals, as is. the case m many countries hidden behind the Iron Curtain.—l am. etc.. Matilda.
