Rec. 8 p.m. ISTANBUL, May 17. Complete official returns give the final state of the parties in Turkey’s general election as:—

Democrats 434 Republican People’s Party 52 National Party 1 The polling was for 487 members on the basis of one Deputy for every 40,000 of the population. The leader of the Democratic Party is Mr Celal Bayar, aged 63, a banker, who will become Prime Minister. Mr Bayar refused a request by President Ismet Inonu that he form a new Government at once. Mr Bayar said he would not be prepared to take control until the new Parliament met on May 22 to elect a new President.
