LONDON TO NEW YORK

Eight-hour Jet Airliner Service Planned LONDON, May 15. The second de Havilland Comet, Britain’s world-beating jet airliner, will be in the air by the end of July. It may pioneer a direct London to New York jet service—eight hours there, and. with the prevailing westerly wind, six hours back. An official of the company said today that the first Comet, which has returned from Africa after tropical temperature tests, will have further flight tests before the second Comet takes the air.

The second jet will be fitted with de-icing equipment before beginning its test. Its Atlantic trials will be made to establish its capacity for carrying 48 passengers non-stop London to New York. Sixteen more jets are now on the production line.
