Pastrycooks’ Prices 20 Per Cent. Higher
All prices of goods sold by pastrycooks and home-made cake kitchens have been increased by 20 ppr cent, in Dunedin. The increase was decided upon last night by a general meeting of pastrycooks and owners of cake kitchens, and will be in force today. A resolution approved by the meeting stated that it was found necessary to cover the costs of ingredients which rose as the result of the lifting of subsidies on them. Small plain cakes will now sell at Is 9d a dozen. Mock and fresh cream small cakes will be priced at 2s a dozen, and buns and scones will rise in price to Is 4d a dozen. The price of block cake and snonges will be increased by 2d a lb.
Advice of the decision is to be posted to all members of the Otago Pastrycooks’ Association. The president of the association, Mr N. F. Armstrong, told the Daily Times last night that the increases being passed on to the public represented only the bare costs of the raw materials.
