CAR IMPORTATIONS

Limited By Need To Conserve Overseas Funds

PA WELLINGTON, May 16. The Government is anxious to grant additional licences for imports of motor cars, but is hampered by the need to conserve overseas funds, said the Minister of Customs. Mr Bowden, last night. The Minister had neen asked if there was any justification for reports circulating in the motor trade that the 1950 licences were to be increased to permit the importation of more cars, including built-up vehicles.

The Minister said the situation was under careful review, to see whether any steps could be taken to relieve the great .shortage of motor cars.
