Net Earnings Show Slight Decline PA AUCKLAND, May 5. The net earnings of New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd., for the year ended March 31 showed a slight decline from the previous year’s peak. The result of £61,248, which is reached after providing unstated amounts for taxation and depreciation, compares with £62,944 in 1949. The dividend is Is 8d a share (10 per cent.), against the distribution last year of Is 4d, together with a bonus of 4d. This payment requires £49,792, leaving £11,456 to increase the carry-forward, to £78,155. The gross profit from newspapers and publications after general expenses' was £201,465, against £204,832. Other income declined by £1391 to £11,415. Depreciation tax, machinery obsolescence, and other expenses totalled £15,042 —a decrease of £3061 during the year. The machinery obsolescence reserve was increased by £IO,OOO to £70,000.
