Postponement Sought By Vegetarian
PA AUCKLAND, Apl. 5.;. Because he had been a vegetarian for five years and could not eat meat, an 18-year-old youth applied for indefinite postponement pf his 14 weeks army training at a sitting of the No. 2 Military Service Postponement Committee today. .. i An army officer detailed the ration scale and claimed that food other than the meat provided would sustain the lad in good health. The applicant. Malcolm R. Turner, said members of his family became vegetarians’ after reading books obtained from the library. He did not belong to any particular religious denomination. He claimed that army diet would be inadequate. ' , _ The chairman. Mr F. J. Cox, announcing dismissal of the appeal, said there was no power to grant exemption from service.
