SLIGHT DECREASE

University Enrolments PRELIMINARY REPORT A slight decrease in enrolments for this academic year at the University of Otago is shown compared with last year’s numbers in a preliminary announcement made yesterday. The ibtals were 2216 for 1950 and 2303 for last year. It is expected by the registrar, Mr J. W. Hayward, that much of the decrease will be made up when enrolments are completed. Changes in the regulations had prevented many undergraduates in the commerce faculty from completing their enrolment cards. The preliminary totals of faculty enrolments for 1950, with those for last year in parentheses, are:—Medical, 630 (635); dental, 224 (231); massage, 50 (44); radiography, 7 (4); law, 42 (43); commerce, 197 (241); mining, 54 (52); home science, 120 (129); physical education, 67 (50); arts and science, men, 541 (588); arts and science, women, 284 (286); —totals, 2216 (2303). Intermediate students are included in their faculty figures.
