DEATH OF PRAISE
PROGENY EXPECTED TO BREED ON GRANDDAM OF LIEBESTRAUM The 22-year-old mare Praise died a few days ago at Mr A. Louisson’s Ladbrook Stud. By Limond from the imported mare Elogy, Praise raced for Mr G. D. Greenwood, and she numbered among her successes the CJC Welcome Stakes and New Zealand Oaks. When Mr Greenwood dispersed his stud. Praise was bought by Mr Louisson, and she had proved herself one of the most successful mares in the Stud Book. To Nightmarch she produced Russian Ballet, winner of the Great Northern Champagne Stakes and Wanganui Guineas: Serenata, New Zealand Cup: Representative, Avondale and Great Northern Guineas, Avondale Cup, and narrowly beaten in a New 'Zealand Cup; Regal Praise, ARC Welcome Stakes, Great Northern Oaks and St. Leger, Herries Memorial Cup, and . Franklin Cup. To Battle Song she left Montezuma, a surprise winner of the Hazlett Gold Cup, and to Finis she has left Eulogize, who has failed to do much on the race track, his most important success being the Otaio Hack Plate at Riccarton last season.
Two of her daughters have won renown at the stud. Gay Helen, by Iliad, left Demonic, one of the best milers in commission, to Defaulter, while Serenata has left Liebestraum, winner of the New Zealand Derby and runner-up to Excellency in the last New Zealand Cup, to Beau Vite, and Vigilantia, by Foxbridge, a good handicap performer and winner of three races this season.
The Eulogy family is one of the most successful in New Zealand, and the Praise branch looks as though it will breed on and continue to play an important part in the sport for many years to come.
